Hosted by the Broke and Bookish the topic for March 18: Top Ten Books On My Spring 2014 TBR List (to be read list)
First off, I have to admit this whole TBR concept is a relatively new to me. As far as I am concerned pretty much all books are generally to be read at some point or another, already read, or things I am not interested in reading. In some ways this feels too much like a homework assignment. The 'top' of my TBR is more or less things that I feel like reading now for whatever reason. Okay - now that I have that off my chest ... things that I am trying to read right now that I have owned for a little while ... 1) Silent Spring by Rachel Carson - classic non-fiction book that is a foundational text in the modern environmental movement.
2) Ready Player One by Ernest Cline - this one sounds like fun to read.
3) Field Notes from A Catastrophe: Man, Nature and Climate Change by Elizabeth Kolbert - another non-fiction book, the author investigates the changes that are already occurring due to human induced climate change.4) Some Like it Hawk by Donna Andrews - back to something fun, this is the 14th (!?!) Meg Langslow mystery. These books almost always make me laugh.
5) Cress by Marissa Meyer - while I was less enamored with Scarlet, I still would like to find out what happens to Cinder.
6) A Natural History of Dragons: A Memoir by Lady Trent by Marie Brennan, just because it sounds neat. 7) Packing for Mars: The Curious Science of Life in Space by Mary Roach - nonfiction again, Mary Roach books tend to be fun and informative.
8) Song of the Quarkbeast by Jasper Fforde - since I would
like to know what happens next. This will also determine whether I
recommend the first book to my son or not.
9) The Secret Rooms: A True Story of a Haunted Castle, a Plotting Duchess, and a Family Secret
by Catherine Bailey because it sounded cool (though I have to admit I
have not watched more than one episode of Downton Abbey - I live under a
rock, remember - we watch cartoons, kids shows and educational TV - I
don't get a chance to see grownup TV very often.) 10) Anything else that I listed for my Mount TBR challenge can take the 10th spot (see homework!) - I have lots of other things that I want to read, so I am just trying to use this to help me focus on something.
Ohhhh, lots of classics here. I've never read Silent Spring - I used to want to, but I guess I wonder how relevant its contents would be today? Packing for Mars definitely looks interesting though.
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of many of the books that you've mentioned however have heard of Cress and really need to start the Cinder series! Also i completely understand what you mean by the TBR concept, every book that i buy i plan to read at some point, i've just tried to put books that i'm planning on reading sooner rather than later :) Hope you enjoy your books!

The Song of the Quarkbeast is such a good sequel! Fforde is incredibly creative. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
